To address increased enrollment of Montgomery County Public Schools' Takoma Park Middle School, SEI conducted a series of interactive meetings with the community and school staff resulting in a 72,742 SF three-story addition. This addition includes 22 new classrooms with support spaces, an enlarged cafeteria, and courtyard that welcomes natural light throughout the new and existing classrooms. The three-story building pays homage to the original Art Deco building from the 1930's with long vertical windows and minimizes its overall scale by melding with the immediate surroundings through a series of articulated layers.
