The National Child Research Center resides in
a historical building in NW Washington DC. This project, which involved
planning with the Historic Preservation Review Board included a renovation of
an 8,000 SF existing four-story house that was being used as a pre-school
facility and a five-story addition of 9,600 SF.
SEI Architects reorganized existing spaces to
provide a better flow throughout the building, incorporated required support
and office space, designed adequate classrooms, and made the facility compliant
with building and life safety codes; code compliant stairs and elevators were
added to access all floors.
Also included in the addition was a new
basement level that provided a Motor Development Skills playroom, new
electrical service room and storage space. New HVAC, electrical and plumbing
systems were also installed.
